Dean A. Lao Jr.
Mr. Dean A. Lao Jr. is the President of Chemrez Technologies Inc. (Chemrez), a subsidiary of publicly listed D&L Industries Inc. and a manufacturer of green chemicals in the Philippines. He oversees the marketing, production, and technical development of the company's diverse product lines.
With a product portfolio that includes biodiesel, oleochemicals, resins, colorants, and additives, Mr. Lao Jr. serves a wide range of industries, including petroleum, personal and home care, coatings, composites, and construction.
He also serves as President of the Philippine Oleochemical Manufacturing Association (POMA), Vice Chairman of the United Coconut Association of the Philippines (UCAP), and Director of the ASEAN Oleochemical Manufacturing Group. In these capacities, he works closely with various stakeholders in the agricultural, chemical, and downstream manufacturing sectors in the Philippines and around the world.
Mr. Lao Jr. was deeply involved in the Philippines' advocacy for nationwide biodiesel use. In 2007, the Philippines became the first country in Asia to mandate the blending of coco-biodiesel in all grades of diesel sold nationwide through the Biofuels Act of 2006 (Republic Act No. 9367).
Through the comprehensive research and testing conducted by Chemrez and its consultants, coco-biodiesel gained international recognition for its excellent fuel properties. These studies contributed significantly to the global knowledge base on biodiesel derived from coconut oil, the Philippines' most abundant indigenous vegetable oil.
Today, Mr. Lao Jr.'s advocacy focuses on creating greater value from coconut oil. Through diligent research, product development, and manufacturing, his company is helping build a thriving export market for coconut-derived health foods as well as personal and home care products.
This includes promoting natural and sustainable ingredients to brand owners, retailers, and consumers, further strengthening the global market for coconut-based products.
